Is Jesus “LORD” Of My Life?

Luke 6:46
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?
1. What is Jesus asking here? Is it possible to call him Lord and not do what he says? I’d call this a “loaded question.” Jesus is asking in a way that is almost rhetorical and exposes hypocrisy. Furthermore, I did say “Jesus is Lord” and I have disobeyed before. Therefore, calling Jesus “Lord” and disobeying him I personally know is possible. Indeed, this question is very humbling to think about!

Do I Believe “Jesus Is LORD?”

Romans 10:9-10
If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

1. What does it look like to have Jesus as Lord in any given area of our life? If I believe that Jesus is Lord and God raised him from the dead “in my heart”, it will affect everything I do. Honestly, I can’t see taking any other posture as reasonable. Therefore, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus becomes the lens that everything is filtered through. In conclusion, I’ll do whatever I’m doing as if I were doing it for HIM, personally. (Colossians 3:23)

2. What does it mean to make Jesus Lord, and not just Savior? Jesus is not some ever-present lifeguard on the sandy beaches of my life. Sadly, when I drift, I forget that what he wants more than anything is a deep and meaningful relationship with me. Of course, I reach out for Jesus when I realize I’m “in over my head.” This is the epitome of seeing Jesus as “Savior” and not “LORD.” Certainly, I must guard my heart from this kind of “drift!”

Do I Want To Be Jesus’ Disciple?

Luke 9:23-25
“Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?”

1. What are the three things Jesus says a follower must do (v. 23)? I must deny myself, pick up my cross, and follow Jesus daily
2. What does it mean to deny yourself daily? To “deny myself” means that I do not do what I want to do – I do whatever Jesus calls me to do daily.
3. What do you gain by losing your life for him? What do you lose by trying to keep it? If I lose my life (meaning my agenda, possessions, time, and even self) for Jesus I gain eternal life. If I do not give up my life for him, I’ll lose both eternal life with Jesus and myself!

Imitate The Lord

APPLICATION: “Lord” means he is in charge. Name one area where you have been Lord instead of Jesus. Find one scripture that shows how Jesus would want you to handle that area of your
life or situation.

I am so distracted these days.  A lot of “noise” comes at me first thing in the morning. Additonally, I need to remind myself, it is NOT seek the things you need to do for God, but it is seek God first. Finally, I must look at Jesus’ example – that shows me the way in this.

“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”(Mark 1:35)
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”(Luke 5:16)
